Rectifier bridge MB10S is a commonly used rectifier device with high efficiency, low power consumption and good stability. In this paper, we will introduce the rectifier bridge MB10S from the principle and structure of rectifier bridge.
1, the principle of rectifier bridge
Rectifier bridge MB10S is a bridge rectifier circuit composed of four diodes, the principle is to use the diode’s unidirectional conduction characteristics, will be converted to direct current alternating current. When the input AC is positive half-circle, two diagonal diodes conduct, directing the current to the negative pole; when the input AC is negative half-circle, the other two diagonal diodes conduct, directing the current to the positive pole. By alternating the conduction, the rectifier bridge MB10S can convert AC power to DC power.
2. Structure of the rectifier bridge
The rectifier bridge MB10S consists of four diodes, two of which are connected together to form a positive terminal and the other two diodes are connected together to form a negative terminal. The rectifier bridge is compact for easy PCB layout and wiring as shown in the figure below. Since the AC current is half positive and half negative, only half of the bridge conducts at all times.

3, MB10S rectifier bridge mode of operation and considerations
The MB10S converts AC to DC by alternating conduction: in the positive half of the AC, the positive diode conducts and the negative diode cuts off; in the negative half, the negative diode conducts and the positive diode cuts off. This alternating conduction realizes full-wave rectification, which can output DC power. The following figure shows a simulated waveform. As you can see from the picture, there is always a zero at the same moment, which is due to the fact that the alternating current is divided into two half-cycles, positive and negative, which results in only half of the bridge conduction at all times.
The voltage directly rectified by the rectifier bridge is not smooth enough and needs to be corrected by the filter circuit voltage. Filter circuit is to minimize the pulsating DC voltage in the AC component, retain its DC component, so that the output voltage ripple coefficient is reduced, the waveform becomes smoother, so as to obtain a stable voltage. So the selection of filter capacitors is particularly important, generally can be based on experience or reference specifications for specific selection.
