How To Use This High Current Motor Driver | HW-039 or BTS7960B Motor Driver
BTS7960B Pinout Equivalent
1:Overview of The BTS7960B :
BTS7960B is a high-power half-bridge motor driver chip launched by Infineon. It is specially designed for high-current DC motors. It adopts TO-263-7 surface mount packaging. It integrates P-channel high-side MOSFET, N-channel low-side MOSFET and driver IC to form a fully integrated half-bridge structure. Its wide voltage input of 6-27V is suitable for industrial power supplies and lithium batteries. The peak current of 43A (continuous current requires heat dissipation) far exceeds traditional solutions such as L298N. It is suitable for high-load scenarios such as robots, smart cars, and industrial equipment. The IN1/IN2 pins control the forward and reverse rotation of the motor2.
2:BTS7960B Important pin function definition:
Número PIN | Nombre del pin | Descripción |
---|---|---|
Pin1 | Tierra | Ground wire (control circuit and power ground). |
Pin2 | EN | Control signal: – When IN = 1 and INH = 1, the high-side MOSFET is turned on, and OUT outputs a high level; – When IN = 0 and INH = 1, the low-side MOSFET is turned on, and OUT outputs a low level. |
Pin3 | INH | Enable signal: – When INH = 1, the chip is activated; – When INH = 0, it enters sleep mode (low power consumption). |
Pin4 | OUT | Half-bridge power output, connected to one end of the motor. |
Pin5 | SR | Switching rate adjustment: Connect an external resistor to GND. The larger the resistance, the slower the turn-on/turn-off slope of the MOS transistor, reducing EMI. |
Pin6 | ES | Current detection and fault diagnosis. |
Pin7 | VS | Power supply positive electrode: Connect to the 6-27V motor power supply (a circuit needs to be formed with GND). |
3:Alternative model recommendation:
BTN7971B:BTN7971B is a high-power half-bridge motor drive chip launched by Infineon. As an upgraded version of high-power half-bridge motor drive chip, the upgrade of BTS7960B, it adopts TO-263-7 surface mount package, integrates P/N channel MOSFET and drive circuit, supports a wide voltage input of 6-28V, has a continuous current of 43A (peak 86A), and has a conduction resistance of only 7mΩ (high side)/9mΩ (low side)
MC33886:The MC33886 is a single-channel H-bridge motor driver chip introduced by NXP (formerly Freescale), designed specifically for small to medium power DC motors. It uses a TO-220-7 package and supports a wide input voltage range of 5 to 28 V. The chip provides a continuous output current of 5.2A with a peak current of 7A. It includes built-in low on-resistance MOSFETs (120mΩ) and freewheeling diodes, eliminating the need for external components.
VNH3SP30: The VNH3SP30 is a high-integration H-bridge motor driver chip produced by STMicroelectronics (ST). It features MultiPowerSO-30 packaging, incorporating dual high-side drivers (HSD) and dual low-side MOSFETs. It supports a wide input voltage range of 5.5 to 36 V and can deliver a continuous current of 30 A (peak 60 A) with an on-resistance as low as 45 mΩ, making it suitable for driving high-current DC motors.
